About Mario

Hi, Sarnia‑Lambton! I’m Mario Fazio.

I'm running for Sarnia + Lambton County Council because I believe experience matters—and I want to put mine to work for our community.

Born and raised in Sarnia, I've spent my entire life building my family, businesses, and career right here in the community I'm proud to call home. My wife, Wendy, and I have raised four incredible children: Lauren, Brittany, Christopher, and Justin. Family has always been at the centre of my life, and I want to help create a community where families, seniors, young professionals, and local businesses can thrive.

I became a Realtor® in 1977 and went on to own and operate my own real estate brokerage for 25 years, leading a team of up to 60 sales representatives. Throughout my career, I've helped thousands of families buy and sell homes and worked with more than 30 local builders on the design, construction, and sale of over 1,000 new homes across Sarnia-Lambton.

My experience extends well beyond real estate. I've owned and operated businesses in restaurants, retail, transportation, commercial development, and mortgage lending. I've also developed residential subdivisions, office buildings, medical facilities, industrial buildings, and commercial plazas, working alongside municipal staff, planners, engineers, and consultants throughout our region.

Giving back to our community has always been important to me. I've served with the Sarnia-Lambton Economic Partnership, currently sit on the ARLANXEO Public Advisory Board, am a Paul Harris Fellow with the Rotary Club of Sarnia, and have donated blood more than 100 times through Canadian Blood Services.

I'm running because I believe Sarnia-Lambton deserves leadership that is experienced, transparent, fiscally responsible, and focused on results. I understand housing, infrastructure, economic development, and responsible financial management because I've spent decades working in these areas.

Sarnia-Lambton has given my family incredible opportunities, and I believe our best days are still ahead. I would be honoured to earn your support and work alongside you to build a stronger, more affordable, and more prosperous future for our community.

Follow along throughout the campaign, get to know me, ask questions, and share your ideas. I believe the best decisions start with listening—and I want to hear what matters most to you.

Together, we can build a stronger future for Sarnia-Lambton.

The Platform

Priorities for the City and County

Mario's plan for tackling the issues that matter most across the city and county.

Taxes

Our property taxes are among the highest in the province. I'll push for better-managed budgets, review duplicated services, and competitive tax rates that help attract new jobs and industry.

Infrastructure

Decades of neglect have left an infrastructure backlog in the hundreds of millions. With a lifetime in construction, road, sewer, and shoreline work, I'll bring real experience to how we prioritize and fund these projects.

Economic Development

Growth in our city and county has stalled. Drawing on my work with the Sarnia-Lambton Industrial Alliance, the Sarnia and District Labour Council, and the Lambton Economic Partnership, I'll cut municipal barriers and bring jobs and industry to Sarnia-Lambton.

Housing

A lifetime designing, building, and selling homes taught me how to create real housing options — for seniors, young people, and those who need affordable, accessible housing. I'll bring back public/private partnerships to speed up approvals and control costs.

Seniors & Newcomers

Seniors deserve to age comfortably in the community they built, and our youth and newcomers need more community spaces. I'll support public/private partnerships — like the Sarnia BACE project — that bring generations together.

City Parks & Recreation

Sarnia has torn down facilities without replacing them, from Germain Arena to Jackson Pool. I'll work with sport and youth groups on multi-use facilities instead of demolishing community assets without a plan.

Police Board Accountability

Mismanagement at the Police Board has cost Sarnia dearly in litigation and put a costly new station on the table. As a council member, I'll push for a more competent, accountable Police Board.

Open, Accountable Government

I want more public meetings for county, city, and police boards; local decisions instead of overpaid outside consultants; a public site tracking by-laws and voting records; and annual town halls in every city zone.
